Pre&Post-Op Instructions for Cosmetic Ear Surgery
The following instructions are general information that you should follow before and after your otoplasty surgery. Pina Aesthetic is not liable for the accuracy of these instructions. You should always follow the instructions given by your surgeon in Turkey after your otoplasty surgery. This procedure can be performed with local or general anaesthesia. If you are having another procedure (such as breast augmentation, vaser liposuction etc.), then your otoplasty will also be done under general anaesthesia. If you are only having the otoplasty procedure, then it might be done under local anaesthesia.
Pre-Operation Instructions
Please read this note carefully:
You will NOT have surgery if you might be pregnant or have medical issues (the anaesthesiologist will verify before you go to the surgery room).
Two Weeks Before Surgery:
Quit drinking alcohol and smoking. Nicotine affects your blood flow and this could harm your surgery outcome and increase the anaesthesia risk.
Avoid any products with ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs or Vitamin E.
One Day Before Surgery:
DO NOT DRINK OR EAT ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT.
Day of The Surgery:
You can shower before heading to the hospital.
You should not wear any makeup. Your hair, nails and eyelashes should be free of any products.
You should bring a bag of loose clothes (with zippers, no need to pull over your head) and comfy shoes.
You should not wear any jewellery or bring any valuables to your surgery.
Post-Operation Instructions:
- Do not drink alcohol or smoke two weeks.
- Sleep on your back and keep your head raised for two weeks. You may feel some mild pain or burning sensation in your ears.
- Take you can medications as prescribed by your surgeon. Do not wait until your pain is severe to take them.
- It is normal to have some bruising and swelling in your ears.
- You may notice some bleeding or fluid coming out of the incision site in the first day. This is normal.
- Walk around every hour or two while you are awake.
- You can apply small ice packs to your ears (15 minutes on, 15 minutes off).
- You may have a slight fever in the first three days after surgery. This is normal and can be reduced by walking and breathing exercises.
- You may have a bandage wrapped around your head and ears. Do not touch it until your first post-op visit, when your surgeon will remove it and change the dressing.
- You may have small drains in your ears. Your surgeon will give you instructions on how to care for them and when to remove them.
- Avoid heavy lifting, bending over, strenuous exercise, weight lifting, and sexual activity for 10 to 14 days after surgery. You can resume these activities gradually after 10 days, but check with your surgeon if you have any concerns.
How to take care of the incisions?
Our plastic surgeon will advise you on how to take care of your ears after the surgery. You should avoid touching or rubbing the area, as this may cause irritation or infection. You should also be careful when using a hair dryer, as the skin may be numb and prone to burns. Only use the cool setting and keep a safe distance from your ears.
